Swedish Hovawart Club ”AFH-Svenska Hovawartklubben” was established end of 1970. The first Hovawart was imported from Switzerland to Sweden 1967, and the first litter was registered 1970. During the 70:th more and more breeders shows an interest for the breed, and today some 160 – 200 Hovawarts are yearly registered.
The number of Hovawarts in Sweden has been rather stable over the recent years, with a population of around 2000 individuals.

Swedish Hovawart Club is like all other breed clubs in Sweden subordinated Swedish Working Dog Association and Swedish Kennel Club.
The club consists of a central “administrational” board, while due to practical issues all activities is arranged and carried out in the 5 appurtenant districts: south, east, west, middle, and north districts.

A large number of activities are arranged yearly within Swedish Hovawart Club, even though “regular training” and courses like obedience and working dog education etc. is carried out by the local dog clubs being present in almost every town.
